Euro 2024: Tournament Overview and Schedule

Euro 2024 is upon us as the best teams in Europe square off to determine who will be crowned kings of the continent. Italy, the reigning champions, will aim to defend their title against formidable opponents like England, France, Spain, and Portugal, who all aspire to write their own chapters in the tournament's illustrious history. Hosts Germany also cannot be counted out, given their rich footballing pedigree and home advantage.

The action began on June 14 and will conclude with the grand finale on July 14. Spectators are in for a treat as some of the world's top players, including France's Kylian Mbappe and England's Jude Bellingham, take center stage. Meanwhile, smaller nations such as Georgia and Albania are eager to spring surprises and make their mark. Out of the 24 teams in the group stage, 16 will advance to the knockout stages.

Venues

The 17th edition of the competition will see 24 teams compete across 10 German cities. UEFA has renamed the venues specifically for this event, enhancing the sense of occasion. Arena AufSchalke, Cologne Stadium, Waldstadion, and Leipzig Stadium will host games up until the Round of 16. Each venue, steeped in history, promises to provide a fitting stage for the footballing dramas that will unfold.

Games will be played at Gelsenkirchen's Veltins-Arena (Schalke 04), Cologne's RheinEnergieStadion (FC Köln), Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank Park (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Leipzig's Red Bull Arena (RB Leipzig). Stuttgart Arena, Volksparkstadion, and Düsseldorf Arena will host matches up until the quarterfinals, with games taking place at Stuttgart's MHPArena (VfB Stuttgart), Hamburg's Volksparkstadion (Hamburger SV), and Düsseldorf's Merkur Spiel-Arena (Fortuna Düsseldorf).

The semifinals will be held at Fußball Arena München and BVB Stadion Dortmund, known as Munich's Allianz Arena (Bayern Munich) and Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park (Borussia Dortmund), respectively. Berlin's Olympiastadion (Hertha BSC) will be the grand stage for the climax of Euro 2024, hosting the final match on July 14.

Group A

Germany opened their campaign with a commanding 5-1 victory over Scotland.
